Spotlight on Volunteers

For Sandra Michelman, volunteering at the Cambridge Women's Center began with a moment of good timing.

Please join us in acknowledging and celebrating the life of our founder and guiding light, Robert (Bob) S. Hurlbut Jr. (1937-2025).

Fred Hewett is a freelance writer specializing in the environment, and a frequent local volunteer. For 12 years, he has tutored high school students through Cambridge School Volunteers, and he donates his time and talents to many other agencies.

This tutor made part of his life revolve around working with kids through Cambridge Volunteers.

This fall, we’ve had the great fortune of meeting Jordan Asseo, whose approach to volunteering  encourages and supports others to follow suit.

“It’s the happiest time of the week.” That’s how Lucia and Maria Vina Lopez describe the two hours every Friday afternoon they spend at the Amigos School in Cambridge as volunteers with Science Club for Girls . The two sisters beam with pride as they talk about guiding kindergarten and first grade girls in hands-on projects that bring science to life. “It's a time for the girls to dream big and experiment,” Lucia says.
