Become a CSV Reading Buddy and help students feel seen, supported and successful!

One of CSV’s longest-running programs, Reading Buddies, pairs each student in an elementary classroom with an adult volunteer for weekly one-to-one reading time. The student selects a book and then gets to experience the joy of story and undivided attention as they listen to their buddy read aloud to them. Volunteers love getting to know their younger buddies and teachers see the impact in students’ increased interest in reading. 

CSV staff provide initial training for volunteers and ongoing support throughout the program. The program takes place at two Cambridge elementary schools and runs from November through May.

Volunteers are asked to attend all scheduled sessions with their student.

Details:

Kindergarten - School in the Riverside Neighborhood

• Thursday afternoons,* 30-minute weekly commitment, 15 sessions, weekly

• *Time is likely 2 classes 12-12:30, 1 class 1:00-1:30

Kindergarten - School in The Port/Area 4 Neighborhood

• Wednesdays 1:15-1:45 p.m., 14 sessions, twice/month

First Grade

• Tuesdays, 12:00-12:30 p.m., 15 sessions, weekly

Second Grade

• Tuesdays 11:15-11:45 a.m.15 sessions, weekly
