Description
The Alewife Reservation is a 136-acre Department of Conservation and Recreation greenspace. Many people know this park through the 13-acre stormwater wetland created by the City of Cambridge in the early 2010s. The other 100+ acres is full of invasive plants -- predominantly Japanese Knotweed, Buckthorn, Garlic Mustard, and Bittersweet.
Invasive plant species are extremely prevalent in Alewife and outcompete native biodiversity, thus disrupting many vital ecological systems within the Alewife Reservation.
Green Cambridge is working to identify the location and type of invasives throughout the reservation as part of our vegetation management plan to restore the Reservation.
They need volunteers to join in this process! It takes just a few hours of your time, through group events or asynchronously on your own schedule, to help out.
Upcoming group events include:
- E-Birding Event - Friday Feb 20th
- Biodiversity Walk - Friday Mar 20
- Group Invasive Mapping Event - Friday Mar 27
