Description
The Growing Center strives to be open to the public on a seasonal basis at least three times per week for several hours each time, thereby being accessible to everyone in the community looking to spend time outside. Volunteer shifts extend 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after open hours.
Open Garden Hours for 2026:
Thursdays, 4:30-6:30 pm (Volunteer Hours 4:15-6:45)
Saturdays, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm (Volunteer Hours 9:45 am - 12:15 pm)
Sundays, 12:00-2:00 pm (Volunteer Hours 11:45 am - 2:15 pm)
Open Garden Hours Hosts unlock the gate, make sure walkways are clear of debris and set up an information table. Once set up, they act as both site contacts and greeters. They check the rolling document for "site updates" (via QR code on side of barn) to see if any tasks need to be done. They welcome folks to the garden, answer any questions that visitors may have, and also ensure that visitors leave knowing about the Center’s other opportunities.
Volunteers are required to complete a general Volunteer Orientation (offered twice monthly, March-October) as well as a brief, 15-minute Host Orientation (offered on a rolling basis). More info at https://www.thegrowingcenter.org/volunteer, or by emailing volunteer@thegrowingcenter.org.
Hosting is a great volunteer job that can be done by two friends together, a couple, or a parent/caregiver with child who is able to play independently without attentive oversight.
