Prison Book Program

Prison Book Program

About

Founded on the belief that books are crucial to one’s educational, political, and spiritual development, the Prison Book Program sends over 10,000 free books annually to people in prison at their request. As most prisons don’t allow family and friends to personally send books into prisons, the Prison Book Program fills this need by collecting generous book donations from the community and sending them directly to people who are incarcerated. Through this program, people in prison gain access to valuable materials such as basic legal information, dictionaries, and GED study guides in addition to novels and skill-based books.

Volunteer activities have included:

  • Sorting donated books

  • Choosing books to match a requester’s needs

  • Preparing packages of books for the mail
