Mass Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS)

About

The Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers (MAPS) works to improve the lives of local Portuguese speakers and maintain a strong sense of ethnic identity. MAPS opens greater access to healthcare, education, and social services, through multi-service, community-based initiatives and programming at their Cambridge main office and 5 other offices. MAPS reaches people where they are in their lives, including during crises. Volunteers must speak Portuguese for some, but not all, positions.

Volunteer activities have included:

  • Community outreach/education on many issues and service areas such as HIV/STIs, domestic violence/sexual assault services, immigrant integration services, elder services, COVID-related assistance, vaccination clinics, and more

  • Supporting older adults through MAPS' Cambridge Senior Center and other work

  • Fundraising, communications, and administrative help
