About

Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) provides free, confidential, flexibly-scheduled, and individualized tutoring to adults in basic literacy and ESOL at affiliate locations across Massachusetts. LVM’s student-centered instruction focuses on the student's goals, interests, abilities, and educational needs. Improved literacy and English language skills help students achieve their educational, job, and personal goals and pursue better futures for themselves and their families.


Volunteer activities have included:

  • One-on-one, weekly tutoring in basic literacy or ESOL

  • Administrative or program support activities

  • Board membership (depending on location)

  • Special skills (fundraising, event planning, marketing and communication, technology and social media, special projects, or graphic design)
