Distressed Children International

About

Inspired by the experiences of their founder as he grew up with near-blindness in Bangladesh, Distressed Children International aims to provide proper education, healthcare, and other opportunities for disadvantaged children in developing countries, with an emphasis on eliminating preventable blindness. Their programs support children in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, and Nicaragua by funding childrens’ primary/secondary education, sending material aid to orphans, providing healthcare and vision screening, and donating to those facing childhood poverty here in the US.

Volunteer activities have included:

  • Administrative work including database entry, bookkeeping, and donor correspondence

  • Board-level consults (nonprofit management, organizational strategy)

  • Youth fundraising and communication with children abroad
