High School Tutoring and Mentoring
Cambridge School Volunteers
Cambridge School Volunteers
There are a variety of opportunities for volunteers at the high school level:
Tutors provide individualized help to improve students’ skills and knowledge in an academic subject, with a particular need for tutors in STEM subjects. Sessions are scheduled for weekly sessions at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School directly before (8-8:30 AM) or after (3:15-4:15 PM) school.
College & Career Mentors help high school seniors with post-secondary preparation, including the college application process, job readiness, and gap year program research in the fall. During the winter scholarship season, volunteers help students identify and complete scholarship applications in collaboration with Workforce and other partners. The program shifts to assist juniors with their post-secondary plans in the spring. Throughout the year, SAT and ACT prep are offered to juniors and seniors. The program meets in the College and Career Resource Center on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 PM. Students may also request to have a mentor work with them before or after school in the Tutoring Center on any weekday.
Classroom Assistants volunteer once a week during the school day. Volunteers help students stay on task, facilitate discussions, and provide academic support for students during the school year. Classroom placements are by teacher request.
