About
Farrington Nature Linc’s (FNL) mission is to enhance the well-being of children from low-income communities through a connection with the natural world. FNL envisions a world in which every child has access to nature, every child learns that nature is a powerful source of health and happiness, and every child believes that stewardship of nature strengthens communities. Programs include adventure-filled outdoor field trips from area schools, a JK-6 after-school program, and a teen leadership program, which is full-time over the summer and includes participant stipends.
Volunteer activities have included:
Garden: Late spring/summer/early fall - Weeding, harvesting, hand-watering as needed, delivering produce to Elizabeth Peabody House.
Animals: Late June-mid August - Food/water/checking in on weekends and occasional weekdays when program staff are off-site.
Event Support: Year round - Supporting event setup/breakdown, event staffing, and other event related tasks - our largest event, The June Bug, will be on June 25th at 630 PM - all event support would come with free admission!
Trail and site maintenance: Late summer/early fall - This need will be on an as needed basis, and will most likely only be 1-2 days.
Explore programs: Fall/winter/spring - Supporting our Educators at a few after school program sites with specific needs (e.g. large group, little/no partner staff support) - this is day-of assistance with implementation and behavior support - not lesson development or lead teaching
