The Cambridge Women's Center is a community-based supportive space open 3 days a week to all for whom woman is a meaningful identifier or lived experience. They offer access to a community kitchen and pantry; material support including survival supplies, toiletries, T-passes, and more; a clothing donation area; computers with 1-1 volunteer support; a resource database with information on health, legal, housing, and other services; a lending library; and common spaces for relaxation and conversation. With a small staff team, volunteers carry out the many tasks that keep the center operating. Volunteers help with referrals, applications, emotional support, material assistance, and childcare in the drop-in, lead groups, plan events, and support administrative tasks.

 

 

Volunteer activities have included:

  • Offering emotional support and conversation to program participants

  • Coordinating food deliveries/home cooking

  • Offering resources and referrals to program participants

  • Maintaining a clean and welcoming space

  • Running a group/workshop (e.g. yoga, a craft, mindfulness, self-care, etc.) 

 

  • Creating a fundraiser or supply drive 

 

  • Organizing material donations

 

  • Supporting staff with IT needs, data entry, and other remote administrative tasks”
